The Khomani San Bushmen are in crisis. They were removed from their ancestral lands, taken out of their schools, and separated from the only way of life they have known for tens of thousands of years. To make matters worse, a liquor store was brought to their community, all giving rise to high levels of alcoholism and other related issues. Entire communities, ways of life, and ancient knowledge are being decimated and nothing so far has helped.
WISN is aiming to bring a Mobile Addictions Treatment program to the Kalahari. Working with partners Nechi, a native-led alcohol rehabilitation program with high rates of success in alcohol rehabilitation among indigenous peoples, and Re-Action, a South African based health and wellness organization, we are seeking to raise funds for this important program.
