Overview

Below is an overview of TKNs Indigenous Mind concentration at Naropa University
Our Indigenous Mind concentration at Naropa University is founded on the wisdom of traditional ways of knowing. It is a dynamic learning community with continual dialogue between students, faculty and WISN elders who share the knowledge and insights of their authentic indigenous heritage.

The program was created by the founder and Director of WISN, Professor Apela Colorado. The WISN organization co-ordinates and supervises all aspects of the program, including the teaching of courses at the University of Creation Spirituality, Oakland; the retreats; dialogues with elders; and study projects.

For students who have grown up steeped in the modern world, the Indigenous Mind program proposes an alternative way of being in the world, grounded in their own cultural backgrounds. Our mission is to help students recover a way of thinking and being that supports sustainability and promotes interdependence.

Our scholarly and personal process is designed to heal the dissociation that is characteristic of contemporary Western consciousness - a perceived split between body and mind, spirit and matter, human and nature, human and human.

The program is appropriate for a wide variety of professionals who wish to re-inspire the foundations of their work - including social services, counseling, politics, environmental sciences, internationl development, education and business.
